Ooh, I love a spiky book! That's great :-) As far as book covers, I like something that gives a sense of the story while still letting me use my imagination when it comes to characters, etc. I always think of how disconcerting it can be to envision characters one way when reading a book and then see how differently they are cast in the movie version...
I totally get that! I’ve read so many books where I kept flipping back to the cover where a character was pictured, thinking “That’s not at all how they’re described!” And movies, forget about it. 🙄😂
Spikes - funny. But I'm still trying to understand what he meant by - "These are the ones that aren’t safe for work." Huh? what work is he talking about? 🧐
Then on book covers, I tend to like artsy and illustrated covers more then ones that are photo-realistic. But that's just my personal preference. 🤓
The ones with the spikes 🤣 I LOVE that! Bless that boy! Honestly, when it comes to book covers there’s so much that catches my eye.. I love eye candy, but pretty flat lays or random objects done well catch my attention too. I usually don’t equate cover with spice level, it’s usually the blurb or really author. If I’ve read the author before I can get an idea of their style and spice level.
I'm not particular about who or what is on the cover. Almost anything can catch my eye. As a fellow author, I do get a chuckle out of what your daughter's bf said and will definitely have to share this with some other writing friends.
That’s so true! I’ve found that too for sure. I’m just thinking, image association, first thing that comes to mind. It’s kind of fun to see how these thought processes evolve over time.

Thanks for your comment, Dan. :) In the world of romance books it just means the ones that have steamy scenes in them.
I’ve seen some illustrated covers that are really eye catching, of late. They seem to be used a lot in the fantasy genre, especially.
Ahhhh! Now that makes more sense. 🤣
😂

He’s got it all figured out. Lol 😂 I’m the same way--I appreciate both. And it’s definitely easier to determine with an author you know.

Thank you! Isn’t that funny? It’s our new inside joke. 😂
Honestly, it's hard to say. A cover can be gorgeous and the steam can totally fall off for me, so I usually go by the blurb.
