High-fantasy die hard fanatic / dogmatic lunatic (all the 'ics') here: I started reading romance a few years ago as a guilty pleasure (I'd sworn since as early as I could read that I'd never touch that genre with a 10-foot pole... until a life-altering breakup). Recently stumbled into sci-fi dark romance and I am hooked!
Granted its not mind-bending world-building or unexpected plot twists carried by solid characters. But I am unabashedly getting through pages and pages of this stuff and loving it! Recently finished the Devils of Vitality series by Chani Lynn Feener.
Can't wait to get into your list - those titles are going into my TBR for sure.
Man, I love that you listed all those tropes out in such a handy list for us. Definitely screenshotting it for future reference. 😁
I'm not generally a huge fan of sci-fi just for the fact that it often gets too deep for me. That said, I'll chance it for authors I like. I recently read an m/m sci-fi romance called Blind Space by Marie Sexton (I'm a huge fan of hers) that I'd say is just about the best seduction I've ever read. It was a space pirate seducing one of his captives, and it was simply delicious (and blessedly for me, there wasn't heavy emphasis on the science side of sci-fi 😆).
I've read at least one with aliens a long time ago. I should definitely keep those kinds on my radar for the future. Like I said, I really dig many of those tropes you listed.
Yay! I’m so glad you find it helpful. It’s funny, when I was reading up on the genre, there wasn’t much discussion, as far as tropes go, that went beyond your usual enemies to lovers and whatnot. I didn’t find that fun enough so I made my own list, thank you very much. 😅💜👽
Oo, great sci-fi romance list. My book bestie and cowriter Kat has raved to me about some of those!
If you don’t mind a self-rec, K.O. Newman and I have a steamy sci-fi alien dragon shifter series we’re writing.

Interstellar Dragon Mates is an alien why-choose motorcycle club romance set on earth where our aliens come to our planet to protect their fated mates!
I usually recommend people start with Rebel Mate prequel novella or Doctor Mate. Those two novella set up the world before Bartender Mate (book one) hits the ground running.
I enjoy urban fantasy and some of the high fantasy.
So many good books in those genres!

“All thi ‘ics’” love that! 😂 I’m glad you decided to give the genre a try, and that you enjoy it. Have fun with the list!
My favorite romances are paranormal ones. In the last few years I have gotten into the alien and "monster" romances.
Oh! I need to add monsters to my sub genre list. Thanks for reminding me. 😁

Nice! Thanks so much for sharing these with us, Miri! 💜😊
Amanda, calling these books science fiction is.... science fiction. As a sci-fi reader, I wouldn't read this stuff even under torture. :D
That’s the great thing about reading for fun, isn’t it? No one can force you to read anything against your will. 😄 Read on, friend.
For sure. :-)
