The dark of night fully covered them as they entered the outskirts of Northland. Still, people came out of their homes to welcome the hunting party, no matter the hour. Nika thought the reception a little strange, but found it even more strange when their company passed through the gates of a grand fortress up to a circular stone structure that stood beyond the village. She’d never seen any place so enormous.
Men at arms rushed to them, bowing low in greeting.
Vasilli tried to straighten. Nika felt him move, but he was very weak.
“Welcome home, my lord. How fared the hunt, sire?” One of the men asked him.
“Help him, please!” Nika yelled to everyone standing near. “He’s hurt.”
