New Fantasy World - Book Monster Land!
Welcome new readers! We're so happy to have you in our fantasy romance readers' lair!
Hello, Monsters!
How are things in your own little fantasy story world? You know, the one you live in when you need to escape reality? Wait, I’m the only one who does that? Oh… uhh… Seriously, though, I was reading—yes, it was a fantasy romance book—I’m not going to say which one. I gotta tell you, just between you and me, Lairlings, some of those fantasy place names got a little ridiculous. One thing I’ll say: we fantasy-minded writers need to resist the urge to look around our homes and allow random words on envelopes or pamphlets to jump out at us and vie for their place of prestige as a location or, heaven forbid, character name in our books! Can I get an Amen?!
Anyway, all this little mind-wander of mine inspired me to give our readers’ lair a fancy, fantasy name of its own. From here on out, whenever reading this newsletter, I want it known that you beautiful, fantastical creatures have entered the whimsical kingdom of “Book Monsterlandia”. What do you think? Do you like it?
Obviously, I’m kidding and being a total nerd, but tell me, what are some of the most outlandish names or place names you’ve heard in a book or on a show? Inquiring minds want to know.
Actually, just mine—my mind is inquiring. Leave me a comment with something absurd:
Okay, now that I got that out of my system, I have some really fun things to let you know about. But first, I want to welcome all the new subscribers who have come on board recently. Thanks so much for joining us here in the lair! We’re so happy to have you. Feel free to introduce yourselves down in the comments section. Hopefully, you got the initial Monsters & Mystics welcome letter with my free book gift. If you missed it, let me know and I’ll get it to you. I also have some cocktail recipes that go with the books in my Tides of Atlantis series for you. You can find those in this post here. There are a few others tucked in with flash fiction stories I’ve written as well. Feel free to scroll through my archives for those.
New Story Teaser
In other news, I’ve done some more writing on a fairy tale I started a little while ago. Nothing ready to share yet, but here’s a little snippet I posted on Instagram this week.
Just a little touch of flirty-ness. Tee hee.
For something with a tad more smoulder, check out this exciting, new anthology! A few author friends and I got together to make a free collection of books for readers to enjoy. I had so much fun working with them on this impromptu project, and am so pleased to announce Six of Hearts coming on the scene.

Now Live!
The latest from author, Miri Stone just hit stores today. Check out the newest book in her Phoenix Crew Series!
WHAT’S A LITTLE HEDGIE TO DO?!
When Pins opens a bespoke tattoo shop in Bear Falls, all she really wants to do is lead a nice quiet life so she can keep her submissive hedgehog, Needles, safe from the cutthroat world of shifter politics. However, when Pins comes face-to-face with the new monster in town, Needles is immediately besotted with Mackenzie, a bad*ss phoenix shifter on the run.
To make matters worse, her plucky animal develops a fatal crush on two of the crew’s most nefarious playboys—the Irish Twins—but the pair of firefighting brothers make it abundantly clear she’s not what they are looking for in a mate.
Now Mackenzie and the Phoenix Crew are drawing heat from sinister players in the shifter world and Pins is going to be faced with a difficult choice—to retreat back into her nice safe shell or lead an expedition right into the heart of the dragon's den in order to protect her new friends.
Can one little hedgehog really make a difference in a world of monsters? And will Pins be the key to saving them all or will this plucky prey shifter wind up as the dragon’s next meal?
The Trouble With Pins (Book 3 of the Phoenix Crew) is a full length novel written for mature audiences (18+ only please!). While this fated mates’ story will be ongoing, this book is told in first person POV and is a true crossover of urban fantasy and paranormal romance genres. It includes explicit sex scenes, frequent cussing, and hot growly shifters bumping up against sassy, female heroines who can hold their own.
Get ready for small town firefighters, lots of shifters, and pyro-kenetic, psychic powers, oh my!
Finally, I put up a new quote in the Inspiration Den section of this newsletter. It’s dedicated to all the passionate book lovers out there and I just love it. You might have seen it already if you follow me on social media. If not, you can take a peek at here in the Den.
For you newcomers, I like to put image quotes and other things I find lovely and inspirational in this special section of Monsters & Mystics. I keep them separate from my regular emails so as not to bombard your inbox. But you can always find them by scrolling through my archives or clicking on the links I provide for them. They’re just special little tid-bits I like to share with fellow story lovers.
That’s all for now, Monsters. Keep an eye out on this space in either your inbox or the Substack app (my personal favorite way to read newsletters). I have some really special things coming up as we head into February—lots of romance reads coming on the scene, so stay tuned!
Till next time,
Stay magical and keep reading!
