Book Monster Plans for the Fall
Reading, writing, and romancing my way through the change of season.
Hello, hello, my Book Monsters!
It’s been a full month since I sent out a letter and half of September is already gone! How did that happen?
First off, tell me how your month is going, i.e. what are you reading, watching, generally enthused about as we head towards fall? (or whichever season you're moving into where you live;) Personally, I’ve been going through a dry spell books-wise and it’s leaked its way into my other forms of entertainment consumption as well, unfortunately. If you have any favorite reads, cinematic must-sees, or Pinterest obsessions in the fantasy genre, do tell. I need help! Lol.
Actually, I’m trying really hard to finish the last book in the amazing Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series, Kingdom of Shadow and Light, right now. I’m half-way through and it’s a great book. I love KMM and everything she writes. If you’ve never read her, I highly recommend devouring all of her books. But for some reason, I am having the worst time getting through this book, and it’s super weird for me. I can’t explain why I keep putting this one down and not getting back to it for long periods of time. I will say that I did put off reading it until after I finished publishing Storm Tide. It was simply a time and devotion of headspace situation, so I don’t know if that threw me off course or what. I’m hoping to get back on track and finish reading it soon, though, because I really do love the author’s writing and the Urban Fantasy fae world she created.
Have you ever struggled to finish a book you were really looking forward to? Also, have you read KOSAL? If so, what did you think? Seriously, I gotta know.
As for writing news, I have a couple of projects going. My schmexy, PNR, Big Bad Wolf retelling is coming out shortly in the upcoming Booktober Anthology. It’s set in a cyber-fae, urban fantasy world and features one of my favorite villains. The anthology has some of my writing besties involved with its production, so I’m really excited for it to come out next month. I’ll have more info on it very soon. Stay tuned!
I’ve also embarked on the somewhat grueling project of updating the formatting on my first three Tides books. New software and formatting programs that have become available convinced me to do this, mainly because it will be pleasing to my own eyes. I can’t help it, I like pretty things! :) I’m making some very minor changes / corrections (no major story changes, of course) to the text, and I may add some small bits of fun content. That last bit I haven’t decided on yet, but I’ll be sure to let you know how to access the updated versions when they’re ready.
Other than that, I have been working on a tiny secret project that would go in the story realm of my Enchanted Lands Romances. If you’ve read Snow Maiden or Odile, you know I draw inspiration for the characters in these books from story ballets I’ve performed in or choreographed for in the past. The story I’m playing around with now is inspired by a character I never thought I’d write about, even though it’s one I danced about a hundred times back in my ballet days (ages and ages ago, lol). I did write a little fairy tale poem to get my brain going when I first started with this idea. You can find a reel I posted of it on my Pinterest or Instagram:
