A Day Late... And You Know the Rest
Let's explore a subgenre I haven't read in a while as we ring in the new month.
Hi Monsters,
Happy March! I wanted to get this post out on the actual 1st, but oh well. Nothing like being a week late, right? I apologize for being somewhat absent lately. Last month was kind of one thing after another, so I missed joining you here in the lair. But I’m here now, and I’m so glad to be back to talking books and fantasy genre stuff with you again!
I’ve also been writing a little more on Lucien and Marissa’s story and working on updates to some of my older books. If you want to read Snow Maiden on a social ereader as it undergoes updating, go here.
Now for some book talk, my friends! What great books have you been reading lately? Do tell us down in comments if you’ve found anything we need to put on our tbr lists.
I just started this book, myself, and am enjoying it very much so far.
It’s not really a fantasy, more a historical, but thinking back, I have to say that historical was kind of my gateway drug into fantasy. So much fantasy takes place in medieval, imagined historical type settings, wouldn’t you say? I didn’t really read a true pnr / urban fantasy romance until I found Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter books, and even then, I always loved how she wove ancient world mythology into her stories. All this makes me need to ask the question: have you always been a pnr/ faro reader or were you led to it through less direct means? What was your first true foray into the genre, the first book you can remember?
These days, it seems like most paranormal romance is set present day, while a lot of fantasy romance takes place in “castle times” (that’s my new favorite way of saying medieval :)). Here’s a little selection of books I found that fit the historical PNR bill, though, in case you are interested:

I tried to find an array of eras and themes. I haven’t read all of these, but did add them to my Want to Read list. If you try any of these out or have already read some of them, please let me know what you think.
It was fun hunting around for these, as I got to see selections from a lot of different time frames. I didn’t include any of the gaslamp or steampunk offerings. In my mind those are a completely different genre and deserve their own deep dive. If you have a favorite sub genre that can be tucked into the fantasy and pnr grouping that you’d like me to do a write up for, let me know and I will.
Looks like that’s all I have for now, lovely Monsters. Till next time…
I’m wishing you lots of storytime magic!
